One of a Kind Unique Post About Redundancy

I admit, this post is not very exciting. It’s not funny, it’s not sexy. It’s rather dull. But I would like to think it’s LIFE CHANGING!

People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan.

Never, NEVER has this expression had more meaning than today. Since everyone is downright addicted to technology (not me, I hate technology), when it breaks, people have complete meltdowns. Apparently you cannot do homework, pay a bill or even relax in a coffee shop without technology these days.

I spoke to someone a few weeks ago who was awaiting a heart transplant. Technical issues knocked out his home phone service and he was freaking out because the heart transplant people had no way of getting in touch with him. Of course it never occurred to him to HAVE A FUCKING CELL PHONE.

Moron does not deserve a heart!

You don’t need to be awaiting a life saving operation to build a little redundancy into your life. Redundancy will make your life run smoothly and save you tons of stress.

Since I am naturally bossy, I am gonna tell you things you don’t think about, but are important. It’s important cause shit happens and it sucks when it happens.

People really freak out when things break. Their first reaction is to say “but it worked yesterday.” My first reaction is to say Oh for fuck’s sake, everything works until it breaks.

The good news is that literally an hour of preparation can save you time, money and frustration and while there will be suckage, the level of suckage will be a 2/10 instead of a 10/10. Yes,you heard it here first, 80% less suckage.

Note: I am just using the word suckage a lot to mess with my sister-in-law. She’s not big on the use of “age.”

Technology is great but…

Since many of us cannot function without technology you must have a back up plan for when something breaks down. And it will break down. Nothing is 100%.

Always, ALWAYS, have a plan B.

If you rely on the internet for your livelihood it is a good idea to have a back up dial-up connection. Don’t wait until you have a breakdown to set it up. Set it up in advance. Test it weekly, monthly, whatever.

Have extra cables, especially if you are wifi. Wifi is great but if it breaks down and can’t be fixed right away, you can still use a wired connection.

The Cloud is Your Friend!

If you don’t know what I mean by the term. Google cloud networking.

Note: While we are on the subject, if you don’t know how to do anything, try Google first. If it’s not there, it can’t be done.

Back up everything on an external drive or in a cloud. Do this frequently. Back up your email contacts. If you lose them, you may be able to get them back but it may cost you a lot of money.

1. Back up your keys, house, car, bike whatever. Write down the combination to combination locks. You can put them on the cloud!

2, Carry a spare car key in your wallet.

3. Have a spare key somewhere for your house/apt.

4. Photocopy/scan all your/spouse/kids/pet’s important ID. If you lose it or it is stolen it’s a zillion times easier to replace the lost documents. Once again, a cloud is a good place to keep them!

5. Memorize, MEMORIZE your/spouse/kids SIN/social security number.

6. Keep spare socks/shoes at work. Your wet cold feet will thank you!
